Aug 31, 2026 Job Description Cavendish Town Elementary School (CTES) is nestled in the heart of the Green Mountains of Southern Vermont and serves students in PreK through Grade 6 and their families in the Cavendish community. CTES is one of five schools within the Two Rivers Supervisory Union (TRSU), all united by a shared commitment to nurturing students who are adaptable, empathetic, responsible, collaborative, and strong communicators. General Statement of Job The K-6 Literacy Interventionist must be committed to and advocate for Two Rivers mission to provide all children with the skills and knowledge they need to be proficient speakers, listeners, readers, writers, and critical thinkers. Two Rivers has made a commitment to using a Structured Literacy approach to support students to become skilled readers. The K-6 Literacy Interventionist is responsible for supporting student achievement in Literacy with special attention to layered instruction at a strategic and intensive level in the areas of reading & literacy. The Interventionist provides individual and/or small group instruction that is highly explicit, scaffolded, cumulative, diagnostic and systematic to students who need additionally layered support to achieve academically. This position is also responsible for monitoring, reporting, and communicating student progress and performance. Primary Job Duties The K-6 Literacy Interventionist instructs reading groups consisting of elementary students who are identified as needing strategic and intensive instruction in the areas of reading & literacy while collaborating with classroom teachers.
  • Provide evidence based intensive interventions using a structured literacy approach to an assigned caseload of students on a daily basis.
  • Document and communicate the progress and intervention strategies used with students to classroom teachers, the teaching and learning director/coach, and principal and/or their designees.
  • Maintain data on reading and literacy levels for eligible students' individual intervention plans.
  • Provide information to ensure individualized targeted evidence based intensive reading instruction for those students who meet federal guidelines.
  • Collects data and maintains student records and provides documentation in a timely manner.
  • Serves as an integral part of the school's data teams and works collaboratively to build intervention groups.
  • Provides reading instruction related to literacy support for identified students.
  • Provides data, planning, implementation, and monitoring support for students' literacy intervention plans.
  • Participates in literacy professional development.
  • Performs other related tasks as assigned. Performance Responsibilities
  • Provide high quality instruction to individual students and small groups using district approved resources
  • Implement instructional activities that contribute to a climate where students are actively engaged in meaningful learning experiences
  • Continually use data to inform instructional decisions
  • Prepare and submit instructional intervention plans
  • Provide a structured, positive classroom experience that encourages students to think critically throughout the learning process
  • Maintain effective and efficient record keeping procedures including progress monitoring
  • Ensure that student growth is continuous and appropriate for age group, subject area and.or program classification
  • Establish and maintain cooperative and respectful working relationships with students, parents and other school personnel
  • Satisfy professional obligations through efficient work habits
  • Model professional and ethical standards when dealing with students, parents, peers and leaders
  • Communicate effectively and regularly, both orally and in writing with students and parents
  • Collaborate with peers to enhance the instructional environment Other Skills and Abilities Ability to apply knowledge of current research and theory in the science of reading to instruction; ability to plan and implement lessons based on the recent research on the science of reading and the needs and abilities of students to whom assigned.
Ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with students, peers and parents; skill in oral and written communication. Ability to work with staff, parents and children.
Desired Qualifications:
  • Experience coaching and collaborating with teachers
  • Familiarity and experience with the
DIBELS 8
assessment
  • Familiarity and experience with Fundations, Just Words and Heggerty Programs
  • Familiarity and experience with evidence-based frameworks for reading instruction to support both language comprehension and word level reading skills
  • Familiarity and experience with diagnostic procedures for identifying reading and writing difficulties
  • Experience writing and teaching curriculum using backwards design and UDL
  • Experience collaborating and problem solving with teachers Minimum Requirements
  • Master's Degree is preferred, a Bachelor's Degree is required
  • Valid or eligible for Vermont Reading Specialist or K-6 Classroom Teacher License
  • 5 years of teaching experience at the elementary level
  • Demonstrated lifelong learner with a collaborative spirit
