Job Description
Job Summary :
Work to ensure that all dogs and support animals residing on site continuously receive humane care and treatment sustaining the overall health and welfare of each animal in the organization's care. In this role, the manager will ensure that CPL satisfies all state regulations and ADI's (Assistance Dogs International) accreditation requirements relating to the management of kennel operations. Supervision of kennel assistants is also a key responsibility of this position.- Create and distribute monthly a calendar noting the times and days of the week that each Kennel Assistant is expected to work.
- Supervise all Kennel Assistants and conduct performance appraisals as directed by CPL.
- Monitor daily, weekly, and monthly cleaning and maintenance checklists to ensure all related tasks in the kennel are completed.
- Work cooperatively along with all kennel assistants on daily tasks as may be needed.
- Coordinate with the Puppy Program Manager the transition of all puppies/dogs and their associated paperwork as they enter formal training in the kennel.
- Along with the Puppy Program Manager and other Service Dog Trainer(s), establish and support a routine of care for each animal on site that supports healthy physical and emotional stimulation, growth, and development.
- Coordinate with the Puppy Program Manager and other Service Dog Trainer(s), the selection of puppies/dogs for specific play groups to support a cohesive play environment.
- Ensure that current and accurate health and care records of all animals that reside on site are maintained.
- Authorize and direct all veterinary appointments, either on site or off site, as needed.
- Monitor medications and vaccinations as approved by the assigned veterinarian, or the Executive Director.
- Communicate daily with the kennel assistants regarding any behavior and/or health concerns of any of the animals on site.
- Communicate with other CPL staff, as appropriate, any concerns regarding behavior and/or health of any of the animals on site.
- Monitor the stock of kennel supplies needed to support daily operations of the kennel.
- Report to the Maintenance Technician or Chief Operating Officer all issues regarding faulty equipment or needed facility repairs/improvements.
- Assist the Chief Operating Officer with the acquisition of the annual Pennsylvania state kennel license as needed.
- Monitor volunteer activities associated with the kennel while promoting a positive and meaningful experience for each volunteer.
- Continually assess and evaluate the needs of the kennel and with the approval of the Executive Director and as CPL resources allow, address those needs.
- Implement new practices and procedures related to kennel efficiencies and enrichment as approved and directed by the Executive Director.
- Ensure that the kennel environment remains safe for CPL personnel, volunteers, guests and residing animals.
- Additional duties as assigned by the Executive Director in support of the mission.
Job Hours and Special Considerations :
The hours and time dedicated to these additional responsibilities will vary between 7:00 am and 5:00 pm, generally Monday through Friday. After hours work, weekend work and working on holidays will be required as determined by the organization's needs and will be required to effectively meet the responsibilities of the position. Attendance and assistance at special events are required. This position is an exempt position and is not subject to over time provisions of the Fair Labor Standards Act. Utilize a computer and associated equipment such as printers, scanners, etc. Utilize a computer for word processing, email, and basic database management Operate a wide variety of office equipment such as multi line phone, fax machine, copy machine, etc. Manage and prioritize multiple projects simultaneously in an organized and structured manner Communicate effectively and professionally, both orally and in writing Report to work on a regular and timely basis Work extended hours as service needs dictate Bend, stoop/squat, crouch/kneel, climb, stand, sit, turn/pivot and walk intermittently throughout the work day Demonstrate cognitive ability to: o Follow directions and routines o Exhibit spatial awareness o Read words and numbers o Concentrate, memorize and recall o Identify logical connections and determine sequence of response o Work independently with appropriate judgment o Process up to 2-3 steps ahead o Follow policy and established procedures independently o Organize materials and manage time Demonstrate sufficient capability to perform assigned tasks and maintain proper job safety conditions Work in an environment with variable temperatures, air quality and humidity Work effectively both independently and within a team environment Work cooperatively within a team environment Work effectively in a diverse work environment with distractions Demonstrate a positive and professional demeanor with all stakeholders Handle/manage dogs up to 100 lbs. in a safe, approved, and positive manner Lift, lower, push, pull, leverage and manipulate facility equipment in a safe manner Work effectively around a variety of animals for the entire work period without it adversely affecting your health Demonstrate the fine motor ability to trim nails, clean ears and perform tooth scraping on CPL animals React and adapt to changing situations appropriately and with openness to new ideas and their implementation Produce written work that is error free Meet deadlines Perform office tasks using simple hand grasping, fine hand manipulation and reach associated with assigned tasks such as paperwork, keyboarding, filing, calculating, and use of telephone Possess a valid driver's license and be able to drive CPL vehicles Demonstrate public speaking skills that are welcoming, educational, and professional for groups of all sizes Demonstrate the ability to work and communicate with people of varying disabilities in an empathetic, professional and respectful manner Demonstrate the highest level of confidentialityQualifications :
The minimum of a high school diploma is required. A college degree is preferred. Experience working with the care and management of animals is required. Current driver's license is required. The ability to drive CPL vehicles is required.Attributes :
