Lab Assistant

Job Description This Laboratory Assistant position combines hands-on laboratory support with inventory control responsibilities in a specialized microanalysis environment. You will support scientists and technicians by preparing tools and materials, maintaining a clean and compliant laboratory, and managing chemical and supply inventories within established quality and safety standards. This role offers the opportunity to work closely with experienced scientists, develop creative solutions for tool making, and grow your laboratory skills in a stable, collaborative setting. Responsibilities Provide 70% laboratory support and 30% inventory management to ensure efficient daily operations Maintain lab cleanliness, organization, and cleanroom standards (including monthly cleanings) Stock supplies, PPE, and prepare glassware for scientific staff Fabricate and prepare microanalysis tools (e.g., tungsten needles, microslides, sample prep) Manage chemical and supply inventory, including storage, ordering, labeling, and compliance (SDS/OSHA) Maintain accurate records in LIMS and inventory databases (suppliers, hazards, expiration, storage) Perform inventory audits, reconciliation, and expiration tracking; coordinate proper disposal Conduct basic maintenance of lab equipment (e.g., pH meters, microscopes) Prepare reagents and specialized materials following established procedures Ensure compliance with cGxP, SOPs, and EHS standards; document all activities Collaborate with cross-functional teams and support continuous improvement initiatives Qualifications Associate's degree in a science-related field, some college coursework in science, or equivalent laboratory experience. Preferably 1 year of work experience in any industry; retail or inventory experience is a plus. Demonstrated ability to identify process improvements and contribute creative ideas. Strong time management skills and reliability in meeting schedules and deadlines. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Westmont, IL. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $20.00 - $22.00/hr. Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
