Job Description

The Lab Technician performs laboratory tests to determine chemical and physical qualities for quality control purposes. Sets up, adjusts and operates laboratory equipment and instruments such as microscopes, furnaces, saws and other equipment. Tests titanium materials for such qualities as purity, hardness, tensile and sheer strength, microstructure, and chemical composition. Tests materials for presence and content of elements or substances such as hydrocarbons, manganese, natural grease, tungsten, sulfur, cyanide, ash, dust, or impurities. Tests samples of manufactured products to verify conformity to specifications. Records test results on standardized forms and writes test reports describing procedures used. Prepares graphs and charts. Cleans and sterilizes laboratory equipment. Calibrates laboratory instruments. Prepares chemical solutions according to standard formulas. Adds chemicals or raw materials to process solutions or product batches to correct or establish formulation required to meet specifications. Other duties as necessary. Requirements One to three months experience or related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience are preferred. High school diploma or general education degree (GED). Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs. Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations. Must regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus. Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
Internal Requirements:
Must be employed with Perryman Company for at least one year. Must be in current position for at least on year. Performance must be in good standing. Must be able to work rotating shifts and schedules.
