Job Description
Lab Technician - 2nd Shift This entry-level Lab Technician role supports a high-volume environmental laboratory by preparing samples with accuracy and precision in accordance with analytical standard operating procedures (SOPs). You will work both independently and as part of a collaborative team to meet daily production targets, ensure sample hold times and turnaround times are met, and maintain a safe and organized laboratory environment. This position offers exposure to analytical chemistry techniques and a clear career path toward training on advanced instrumentation such as ICP-MS and GC-MS. Responsibilities Independently prepare samples for analysis after appropriate training, following analytical SOPs and using basic instrumentation specific to the department and analytical methodologies. Perform routine operation, maintenance, and calibration of preparation instruments and laboratory equipment to ensure accurate and reliable results. Handle 2nd shift sample intake, including receiving, unpacking, and logging samples, with a focus on soil sample handling and weighing. Conduct wet chemistry procedures and sample digestions in accordance with laboratory protocols and safety guidelines. Monitor instrumentation during analyses to ensure proper performance, promptly reporting or addressing any issues that arise. Input and maintain technical information and data in laboratory systems to support laboratory functions and operations. Maintain an accurate and complete Laboratory Notebook where applicable, documenting methods, observations, and results in a clear and organized manner. Adhere to internal standards, policies, and procedures, including quality assurance and quality control requirements. Follow safe laboratory practices at all times and contribute to maintaining a clean, safe, and organized work environment. Assist with validation studies and method detection limit (MDL) studies as needed to support method development and quality initiatives. Participate in production-based workflows to help the team meet project deadlines and turnaround times in a high-volume setting. Perform other duties as required, which may include tasks such as organization, waste disposal, and sample disposal, particularly during periods of high workload. Essential Skills High school diploma. Ability to read, write, and communicate effectively in English. Basic mathematical skills to perform calculations required for sample preparation and analysis. Basic reasoning skills and abilities to follow detailed instructions and troubleshoot routine issues. Basic computer skills to input and maintain technical information in laboratory systems. Ability to lift, carry, push, and/or pull up to 25 pounds on a frequent basis. Ability to work 2nd shift, Monday through Friday, from 3:00 p.m. to 12:00 a.m. (with a lunch break). Willingness to consistently follow analytical SOPs and safe laboratory practices. Capability to work in a high-volume, production-based laboratory environment with project-oriented and deadline-driven work. Additional Skills & Qualifications Associate's degree in Chemistry or a similar scientific discipline (preferred). 1-2 years of relevant experience in analytical chemistry laboratories (preferred). Experience with sample preparation and sample intake processes. Exposure to wet chemistry techniques in a laboratory setting. Familiarity with working in accordance with SOPs in a laboratory environment. Interest in developing skills on advanced instrumentation such as ICP-MS and GC-MS as part of a future career path. Strong attention to detail and commitment to accuracy and precision in sample preparation. Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively within a team to meet production targets and deadlines. Work Environment This role is based in a high-volume, production-focused environmental laboratory where work is project oriented and deadline driven. The laboratory operates a networked environment with a strong emphasis on quality, safety, and compliance, and you will use basic laboratory instrumentation and wet chemistry techniques for sample preparation and analysis. You will work on the 2nd shift, Monday through Friday from 3:00 p.m. to 12:00 a.m., with a scheduled lunch break. Training takes place on the assigned shift to ensure familiarity with the specific workflows, instruments, and SOPs used in the laboratory. The environment experiences peak workloads at the end of each month, and overtime opportunities may be available before your shift or on weekends, subject to supervisor approval, for tasks such as organization, waste disposal, and sample disposal. Appropriate laboratory attire and adherence to safety protocols are required at all times. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Wheat Ridge, CO. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $22.00 - $22.00/hr. Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
