Job Title:
Landfill Gas Technician Job Description The Landfill Gas Technician supports operations and maintenance activities for landfill gas systems by analyzing well data, maintaining mechanical equipment, and performing field measurements and environmental testing. This role combines hands-on mechanical work with data collection and system tuning to help ensure safe, efficient, and compliant landfill gas operations. Responsibilities Support operations and maintenance activities for landfill gas systems at multiple landfill sites within approximately 2.5 hours of the home site. Analyze landfill well data using an eTools system to monitor performance, identify issues, and support system optimization. Perform pump maintenance, including pulling, rebuilding, troubleshooting, and replacing pumps and related components. Conduct landfill gas tuning and reading to maintain optimal system performance and regulatory compliance. Use surface emission monitoring (SEMs) equipment and probes to collect environmental field data and verify landfill gas control effectiveness. Carry out environmental testing and field sampling related to landfill gas and associated systems. Perform accurate and timely data entry and data collection in support of reporting, analysis, and compliance documentation. Apply mechanical experience to diagnose and resolve issues with landfill gas collection system components and related equipment. Utilize company equipment and vehicles safely and responsibly while traveling between assigned landfill sites. Follow all safety procedures and environmental regulations, including those related to HAZWOPER and landfill operations. Collaborate with team members and supervisors to prioritize tasks, share findings, and continuously improve system performance. Maintain tools, equipment, and vehicles in good working condition and report any maintenance needs promptly. Essential Skills Experience with landfill gas systems, including landfill gas tuning and reading. Hands-on mechanical experience, particularly with pump maintenance such as pulling, rebuilding, troubleshooting, and replacing pumps. Experience working in landfill, environmental field, or landfill gas environments. Ability to analyze landfill well data using digital tools or systems such as eTools. Proficiency in data entry and data collection for environmental and operational purposes. Experience with environmental testing and field sampling. Knowledge of and adherence to
HAZWOPER
practices and safety standards. Ability to use SEMs and probes for landfill gas monitoring and surface emissions measurements. Capability to travel regularly between multiple landfill sites within driving distance of the home site. Strong commitment to safety and working in accordance with environmental regulations and procedures. Additional Skills & Qualifications Landfill gas experience in an operations, maintenance, or environmental field role. Experience in environmental engineering or related environmental field work. ISCO pipe fusion certification is a plus. Experience with pipe fusion or related pipeline work. Familiarity with environmental field sampling, testing methods, and documentation. Ability to work independently in the field while maintaining clear communication with the team. Interest in long-term growth within an employee-owned environmental engineering organization. Work Environment We have 3 sites within 1.5 hours of Wabash, IN. Work takes place primarily in outdoor landfill environments and field settings, involving exposure to varying weather conditions, uneven terrain, and active waste management operations. The position uses company equipment and vehicles for travel and field work, as well as monitoring instruments such as SEMs, probes, and data collection tools. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Wabash, IN. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $25.00 - $30.00/hr. Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
