Job Description

Under general direction, plans, schedules and supervises the work of field code enforcement staff investigating and enforcing a variety of municipal codes, regulations and ordinances, , which impact the commercial, industrial and residential districts; coordinates the work with management and staff from other City departments such as Police, Fire, and Public Works, as well as representatives of other governmental agencies; may represent management in community meetings and events; and performs other work as assigned. The following typical tasks and responsibilities are representative of the position's essential duties. They are descriptive, not limiting.
Essential Duties:
Plans, directs and organizes the work and evaluates performance of assigned staff; Oversees the investigation of complaints, preparation, and processing of appropriate corrective orders; Acts to gain compliance to zoning, housing, and Municipal Code violations; Conducts Follow-ups to ensure proper documentation has been completed, Recommends selection of subordinate staff and provides for their training; recommends disciplinary actions; Assists in the development and presentation of training programs; Analyzes complex code enforcement problems and recommends effective solutions. application & supplemental questionnaire that they meet the below requirements: Graduation from an accredited high school or GED; AND Six (6) years of experience in code enforcement, building construction (electrical, plumbing, carpentry, or mechanical) at the journey-level, inspections, plan permitting, or related field including at least two (2) years as a Code Enforcement Officer; OR An equivalent combination of training, experience, and certification. Possession of a valid California Class "C" Driver's License. (Employees will be required to operate City vehicles on a daily basis.) Incumbents may be required to successfully complete training in police procedure including issuance of citations, attend a PC 832 class. Possession of a California Association of Code Enforcement Officers (CACEO) certification or equivalent. July 28, 2026 (Tentative) : An appraisal will be made of the applicant's experience, education, training, certification, knowledge, skills, abilities, and personal qualifications for the position. A minimum passing score of 70% is required.
