Job Description

Job Summary Position Requirements The Animal Control Division of the Summit County Sheriff's Office is seeking a well-qualified Animal Control Officer. An Officer enforces Summit County Animal Control Resolutions and State Statutes pertaining to the care and control of animals. Issues summons to violators of animal control laws and appears in court as the prosecution witness when necessary. Captures and impounds domestic animals, livestock, and wildlife as required. Investigates animal bite and neglect/cruelty cases.

Provides education of animal care and responsibility to the public on a daily basis and through special presentations. Will be required to perform shelter administrative duties, kennel maintenance duties, maintain accurate records of impounded animals, and euthanize and cremate animals. Will be required to work weekends and be on call for after-hours emergencies 2-3 nights per week.

The ideal candidate will be a team oriented professional with strong initiative, customer service, organizational, and communication skills. The candidate should have a strong desire to work with people and animals.

Expectations of the chosen candidate: The chosen candidate is expected to demonstrate a positive demeanor, support the mission of Animal Control, and work closely with the public, shelter staff, and volunteers.

Required Qualifications Applicants must be 21 years of age.

Must have a valid Colorado's Driver's License at the time of appointment and throughout employment and know how to safely operate a motor vehicle.

High School Diploma or GEDAbility to lift 75 lbs. and pursue animals on foot.

Working knowledge of animal behavior.

Ability to prepare and maintain records and reports.

Data entry and MS Office skills.

Public relations experience and excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Ability to deal with the public in a variety of difficult and sometimes emotional situations.

Pass a Criminal background check.

Animal Control Officer experience preferable.

Candidates proceeding in the process will be required to complete a Sheriff's Office Civilian Application.
