Job Description

Town of Plainfield, Connecticut Part-Time Assistant Animal Control Officer The Town of Plainfield is seeking qualified applicants for the position of Part-Time Assistant Animal Control Officer (ACO) to assist in the enforcement of animal control laws and ordinances and support the safety and welfare of residents and animals within the community.
Position Summary:
Under the direction of the Animal Control Supervisor or designated authority, the Animal Control Officer performs a variety of duties involving animal control enforcement, animal welfare investigations, public education, and response to animal-related complaints and emergencies.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Respond to calls involving stray, injured, nuisance, or dangerous animals. Investigate complaints regarding animal cruelty, neglect, bites, and ordinance violations. Enforce Connecticut General Statutes and local animal control ordinances. Capture and transport animals safely and humanely. Complete reports, citations, and maintain accurate records. Assist with quarantine procedures and investigations involving animal bites. Maintain animal control vehicles and equipment. Provide excellent customer service and education to the public. Participate in on-call or emergency response as assigned.
Qualifications:
High school diploma or GED required. Certification as an Animal Control Officer by the State of Connecticut preferred or ability to obtain certification within a specified period. Experience working with animals, law enforcement, public safety, or related fields preferred. Knowledge of animal behavior, handling techniques, and applicable laws. Strong communication and conflict-resolution skills. Ability to work independently and make sound decisions in stressful situations. Proficiency with report writing and computer systems.
Special Requirements:
Must possess and maintain a valid Connecticut driver's license with an acceptable driving record. Must successfully pass a background investigation and pre-employment drug screening. Ability to work evenings, weekends, holidays, and respond to emergencies as needed. Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds and work outdoors in various weather conditions.
Schedule:
Part-time; hours vary based on operational needs, including evenings, weekends, holidays, and on-call assignments. Max hours total 20 hours per week.
Compensation:
Compensation is $20/hr.
