Job Description
Lee County is looking for motivated and community-minded individuals to help keep our neighborhoods safe, clean, and enjoyable for everyone. As a Code Enforcement Specialist, you'll play a key role in protecting property values, supporting responsible development, and ensuring Lee County remains a great place to live, work, and visit. This position is perfect for someone who enjoys working outdoors, solving problems, and helping people understand and follow county rules. What You Will Do Investigate complaints related to zoning, property maintenance, overgrown lots, nuisance accumulation, and unpermitted work. Enforce County Land Development Regulations, ordinances, building codes, state laws, and other regulations. Meet with residents, property owners, contractors, and businesses to explain violations and guide them toward compliance. Prepare and issue warnings, notices of violation, and citations. Testify before the Hearing Examiner, County Court, or other legal proceedings when required. Attend community meetings to educate and build positive relationships with the public. Research property information, including ownership, zoning, legal descriptions, permits, and deeds. Document all cases using photos, written reports, computers, and field equipment. Follow up on open cases and work with others to resolve violations within required timelines. Serve as a liaison between county departments, law enforcement, contractors, and residents. Assist with updates to ordinances based on trends or issues seen in the field. Work occasional after-hours, weekend, or holiday shifts as needed. What We're Looking For High School Diploma or GED, or a combination of education and experience that provides the required knowledge and skills. One (1) year of experience in code enforcement, construction licensing, zoning, building construction, or another related field with strong public contact. Valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record. Strong communication and customer service skills. Ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions and perform physical tasks such as bending, climbing, and stooping. Experience preparing documentation or presenting information in hearings is a plus. Bilingual in Spanish preferred.
Work Schedule:
Monday-Friday, 7:30 AM-4:00 PM. Some after-hours, weekend, or holiday work may be required. Why Join Us?
