Assigned functional areas; Adoption Counselor/Special Events and Volunteer Coordinator. As an employee of the animal care shelter, the coordinator may also assist in daily Shelter operations when needed. Provides high quality customer service to people who visit or call Animal Services. Works under the direct supervision of the Shelter Supervisors or the Lead Veterinarian.
EXAMPLE OF DUTIES
The tasks listed below are those that represent the majority of the time spent working in this class. Management may assign additional tasks related to the type of work of the class as necessary.

Functional Area - Adoption Counselor/Special Events and Volunteer CoordinatorActively reaching out to and interacting with the general public, specifically talking to prospective adopters, and coordinating appearances at offsite events.

Interacting with/getting to know the animals and talking with prospective adopters to find out what they are looking for in a pet to make the best possible match.

Interacting with/coordinating Animal Services volunteers for events, in-shelter activities, and volunteer hours.

Conducting phone interviews with potential volunteers, assisting them with the on-boarding process, and conducting new volunteer orientation.

Assisting people through the adoption process, providing education about animal care and behavior, finalizing adoptions using in-house software.

Willingness and ability to learn about dog and cat behavior, common issues, and ways to address them in order to keep animals in homes.

Assisting with cleaning of animal areas and equipment as needed, including spot cleaning of animal and public areas throughout the day.

Staying active and visible in the community, attending outreach and adoption events, all with the purpose of getting animals adopted and educating the community about the BCSO Animal Services mission, services, and programs.

Taking animals out into the community daily (when scheduling allows) to promote animal adoption.

Appear via guest-slot on local radio shows to promote adoptable dogs.

Write biographies promoting the "Pet of the Week" to be distributed into the community. Transporting animals, cages, and event equipment to and from offsite events.

Treating all animals humanely, properly and with compassion at all times, regardless of the situation or circumstance and promoting a humane and caring attitude toward all animals.

Regular, dependable and punctual attendance is an essential function of this job.
SUPPLEMENTAL INFORMATION
Work schedule includes weekends, holidays and evenings. May require working varying shifts any day of the week.

Employees will have contact with inmates during the normal course of the workday.
