Job Description
JOB SUMMARY
The Foster Coordinator is responsible for coordinating animal placements into foster homes, supporting foster families, and ensuring animals in foster care receive appropriate care and follow-up. This position requires excellent communication, compassion, and organizational skills to manage time-sensitive needs, maintain accurate records, and provide guidance to foster families. The Foster Coordinator serves as the primary point of contact for fosters, ensuring they receive timely support, resources, and training while collaborating with other departments to promote smooth operations and positive outcomes for animals.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Coordinate foster placements, ensuring appropriate care and training standards. Monitor health and well-being of foster animals, reporting concerns to medical staff or Foster Manager. Transport between foster locations and shelter (both to and from). Maintain accurate records and ensure adherence to disease prevention and care protocols. Respond to foster inquiries and correspondence promptly and professionally. Advise fosters on proper handling, cleaning, and sanitation protocols; provide PPE guidance as needed. Conduct meet-and-greet sessions between fosters, potential adopters, and animals; collaborate with behavior staff as needed. Assist with medical updates, vaccinations, and documentation within scope of training. Prepare adoption and foster packets, supply kits, and ensure fosters have needed resources. Lead and support foster-related events and community engagement opportunities. Provide neonatal and incubator care under the guidance of the Foster Manager. Collaborate with other shelter departments as needed to support overall operations. This position performs in accordance with the organization's expectations for animal care, teamwork, and interpersonal relations, and actively contributes to improving service delivery, communication, and consistency.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Positive, professional demeanor in a dynamic and emotionally demanding environment. Experience in animal welfare, foster coordination, or shelter environments. Reliable and punctual, with strong time management and follow-through. Ability to build relationships and communicate effectively with fosters, adopters, and staff. Highly organized with strong attention to detail. Knowledge of basic veterinary practices, vaccination protocols, and animal care standards. Valid driver's license and ability to operate company vehicles. Passion for animal welfare and a commitment to the human-animal bond.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Knowledge of animal behavior and training, or willingness to learn. Familiarity with zoonotic diseases, prevention methods, and disease control practices. Comfortable working in varied environments with potential exposure to noise, odors, and animals of unknown behavior histories.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS / WORKING CONDITIONS
Ability to lift and carry up to 50 lbs. Extended periods of sitting for data entry and administrative work. Frequent exposure to loud noises, odors, cleaning agents, and zoonotic diseases. Flexibility to adjust to changing priorities and daily needs.
