BRIEF DESCRIPTION
Under general supervision, performs animal care tasks and shelter upkeep to maintain a clean and disease-free environment for impounded animals. Duties include cleaning kennels, cages, and buildings; administering medications and vaccinations; walking and bathing animals. Other duties may include but are not limited to assisting with the adoption of animals, answering phones, and other duties as required. Office and field environment; exposure to a variety of domestic and wild animals; inclement weather conditions.
NECESSARY KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
Knowledge of operations and services of an animal control program Knowledge of common dog and cat breeds and coat colors Knowledge of common illnesses and medical conditions of domestic animals Knowledge of computerized record keeping and filing methods Familiar with methods and techniques of animal control Knowledge of principles and practices of animal behavior and animal care Ability to maintain physical condition appropriate to the performance of assigned duties and responsibilities Must be able to deal with the public and fellow employees in a tactful, considerate manner; concerned and interested in providing humane treatment for animals
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
High school education or its equivalent and at least one year's experience working with animals; OR Any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities
CERTIFICATES AND LICENSES REQUIRED A
Valid Class C Texas driver license and the ability to maintain a satisfactory driving record
ENVIRONMENTAL FACTORS AND SAFETY HAZARDS
Primarily in an indoor environment with the ability to operate outdoors when needed. May be exposed to extreme heat and cold during summer and winter months.
TOOLS AND EQUIPMENT USED
Standard office equipment including multi-line telephone, computer, fax machine, copier, scanner, printer, etc. Chemicals and standard cleaning supplies, including but not limited to sprayers, mops, squeegees, etc.
