Education:
High School diploma or GED.
Experience:
No previous experience required. Animal service municipal government experience preferred with exceptional customer service.
Certifications:
Complete animal control course within 6 months of employment. Complete continuing education as required by Texas Department of State Health Services to maintain certification.
Licensing:
Must possess Texas Class "C" driver license with clear driving record.
Residency:
None Summary Day-to-day responsibilities include protecting residents from and educating the community about stray or vicious animals and related diseases; working with animal shelter partnership; captures, impounds, relocating, disposing of animals, and maintaining records. Essential Job Functions Patrol an assigned area for stray, vicious or injured animals and respond to citizen complaints regarding same. Provide support and care to animals. Enforce law and ordinances to protect citizens and property. Share information and work with other law enforcement agencies as directed and appripriate. Maintain current knowledge of applicable animal laws and statutes and pending legislation. Work shift as assigned. License animals within the city limits. Issue warnings and citations. Respond to calls and investigate animal cruelty complaints. Conduct animal bite investifations and place animals in quarantine. Pick up live and dead animals to keep the city free of road obstructions, health hazards and stray animals. Assist with the operation and maintenance of the Jacksonville Animal Shelter. Ancillary Job Functions Maintain shelter facilities, firearm, vehicle, and equipment in accordance with state regulations. Contributes to team effort by performing other related duties as assigned by management.

Work Environment May be required to work in high or dangerous places. Work may involve potentially life threatening exposure to extreme temperatures, humidity, noise, chemicals/gases, contagious diseases, airborne particles/pathogens, and/or physical trauma. May be required to work in confined spaces. May be exposed to bio hazards or bloodborne pathogens. Work may potentially involve risk of exposure to electrical shock.
