Job Description
Inspects assigned areas of the city to enforce provisions of zoning ordinance, property maintenance ordinance, junked vehicle ordinance, weed and rubbish ordinance, and other codes as assigned. Inspect assigned areas of the city to identify violations of assigned codes; Document the nature of the violation and follow procedures to earn compliance; Inspect for violations of zoning ordinance to ensure adherence with the City's Comprehensive Land Use Plan; Enforce state and local regulations regarding substandard housing and junk vehicles to preserve the health, safety and welfare of the community; Interpret and implement provisions of assigned codes and ordinances in accordance with departmental policies and practices; Explain ordinance provisions to citizens. Counsel citizens regarding the nature of the violation and any actions required for compliance; Testify before appropriate board or courts regarding code violations; Complete reports and enter data on inspection activities as required; Coordinate activities with office and clerical staff to ensure a functioning workflow Conduct follow-up inspections as necessary; Ability to communicate with other departments in a professional manner; Perform related duties as required. High school diploma or equivalent. No specific experience required; any combination of relevant education and experience which provides the following: Valid Current Driver's License Physical exam required Bachelor 's degree preferred Ability to: Educate, enforce, read, and interpret City ordinances, state, and federal law; Work with the public in a diplomatic manner; Prepare reports and document evidence of violations; Work with a code enforcement database; Obtain license as a Certified Code Enforcement Officer within 12 months.
Physical Requirements:
Frequently walk during the shift; Continuously bend during the shift; Occasionally kneel during the shift; Place arms above, at, or below shoulder height; Frequently lift and carry up to 25 pounds; Occasionally lift and carry up to 50 pounds; Coordinate eye, hand, and foot movement in order to operate a vehicle.Similar jobs in Lubbock, TX
