Essential Duties:

• Patrols for stray, vicious, and/or injured animals and responds to citizen complaints regarding the same;
• Responds to emergency calls, such as cruelty to animal complaints, animal bites, and control of poisonous or dangerous animals;
• Removes, impounds, manages, and cares for stray and unwanted animals;
• Investigates bite reports and other complaints; determines if animal or owner of animal is in violation of county ordinances and/or state law; issues citations as appropriate;
• Files complaints with the Justice of the Peace office, County and/or District Attorney's Offices; and appears in court, when necessary;
• Removes deceased animals from impound; disposes properly;
• Traps wild and domesticated animals;
• Maintains records and prepares required reports with the county and state;
• Prepares animals for proper rabies testing and transports animals safely to the lab;
• Maintains all equipment: traps, catch pole, tranquilizer guns, lock boxes, taser, etc., and
• Maintains, cleans, and feeds animals.

Other Important Duties:

• Attends required continuing education as required by law and/or Environmental Health Director; and
• Performs such other related duties as may be assigned.

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Knowledge of:

animal behavior; health regulations; county ordinances and state laws; equipment operations; and records preparation. Skill/Ability to: safely and properly handle and care for animals; establish and maintain effective relationships with co-workers and the public; demonstrate proficiency in both oral and written communication; and maintain necessary certifications, Texas driver's license applicable to job responsibilities, and good driving record. Ability to lift in excess of 100 pounds of force occasionally and/or in excess of 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or in excess of 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
