Summary The Animal Services Field Supervisor provides direct field oversight for all Animal Control Officers (ACOs) while maintaining the capacity to perform front-line enforcement duties as required. This role delivers critical administrative leadership, managing timekeeping and inventory logistics while serving as a primary liaison between the shelter, law enforcement, and external agencies. The Supervisor supports general shelter operations to ensure seamless departmental functioning. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Provide direct supervision of ACO field operations, recommend policy, plan and direct activities of employees to maximize effectiveness and efficiency of operations utilizing all available resources Assist in the selection, hiring and training of Animal Control Officers Plans, directs, controls and evaluates job performance of several employees and performs annual employee performance reviews Administer corrective training, counseling and/or discipline when appropriate Trains ACOs in all field operations procedures and ensures staff maintain state-required certifications Resolves problems and miscommunications between employees in a fair and unbiased manner Provides support as a certified ACO for field operations, including the impound of animals and livestock Responds to citizen complaints and inquiries Performs duties related to after-hours call-out rotation Prepares charging documents for and testifies in criminal court Coordinates with various groups, organizations, and governmental agencies Communicates with the Shelter Manager and the Police Department chain of command regarding field activities Compiles data and submits monthly reports and summaries to department supervisors Recommends ordinances, programs, and proposals to improve animal services field operations Briefs the Shelter Manager on budget matters and recommends budget considerations Ensures employee compliance with established safety procedures Maintains compliance with health and safety laws and guidelines Assists with shelter operations, including cleaning, care, feeding, euthanasia, adoptions, and surrenders when necessary Orders and maintains supplies, working closely with local vendors and the city Purchasing department Accepts and collects payments for services or fees Provides community education regarding animal services and safety Follows City policies, procedures, and safety guidelines Performs other duties as assigned Minimum Qualifications High school diploma or equivalent Three (3) years of experience in an animal shelter facility or related field Two (2) years of experience in a lead or supervisory role Certifications, Licenses and Registrations Valid driver's license, including a clear criminal and driving record Advanced Animal Control Certification or ability to obtain within one (1) year of employment Administrative Animal Control Certification or ability to obtain within one (1) year of employment Certified Euthanasia Technician or ability to obtain within 120 days of employment Thank you for your interest in the position.
