Job Description

Minimum Starting Salary:
$21.00 per hour - Depending on Qualifications The City of Waco Seeks Join our dedicated team as an Animal Protection Officer and help ensure the safety and well-being of animals and residents in our community. In this vital role, you will respond to animal-related calls, enforce local and state animal welfare laws, and investigate concerns such as cruelty, neglect, and public safety issues. You'll safely capture, handle, and transport domestic animals, livestock, and wildlife, as well as coordinate quarantine and rabies control measures. You'll also support the community through education and outreach, provide excellent customer service, and maintain accurate reports and records. Minimum Qualifications:
Required:
High School Diploma or GED equivalent 1 year of customer service or animal service experience Must live within McLennan County Must possess a valid Texas Driver's License Basic Animal Control Certification from the Texas Department of State Health Services is required within 180 days of hire Euthanasia Certification mandated by the Texas Department of State Health Services is required within 180 days of hire Must pass a Criminal Justice Information System (CJIS) background check Position Description Under basic supervision, enforces state laws and local ordinances governing domestic and wild animals for the City of Waco Animal Services. Position Responsibilities Responds to calls for service; captures, transports, impounds, and quarantines animals; enforces state and local regulations governing animal protection issues, investigates complaints, and issues citations. Provides customer service on domestic complaints and information requests; presents community outreach and educational programs; maintains records and prepares summary and status reports. Euthanizes animals and process animal carcasses. Maintains assigned vehicle and equipment according to City standards. May be required to respond afterhours, including holidays and weekends, in the event of a departmental or City-wide emergency. Operates a City-issued vehicle equipped with animal handling tools, containment units, and safety equipment to respond to service calls, rescue distressed or dangerous animals, enforce animal welfare laws, and transport animals safely to shelters or veterinary facilities while ensuring proper care and maintenance of all specialized gear.
