  • Review the merits of appeal requests by analysis of documents in the Workers' Compensation Board's (WCB) eCase and internal NYSIF databases; review of the WCB's digital audio recordings of hearings and depositions, research of applicable law, and case documents
  • Review documents (RFP's - Requests for Proposals, RFQ's - Requests for Quotes, IFB's) used in NYSIF contracting and procurement of services and commodities that support the agency's business and its procedural objectives, including review of the development, editing, and the negotiation of contracts and RFP's, RFQ's, and other agency agreements
  • Legal research, draft WCB appeals, rebuttals, Appellate Division appellate briefs and responses, as needed

For appointment to Assistant Attorney 1:
  • Law school graduation and/or eligibility for NYS Bar Admission
  • .
    • Candidates appointed to the Assistant Attorney 1 level will be automatically advanced to Assistant Attorney 2 upon admission to the New York State Bar.
    If you are not admitted to the New York State Bar within two years of appointment, your appointment will be terminated.
    For competitive appointment:
    Transfer:
    Current New York State employee with one year of permanent competitive class service in a title eligible for transfer under Section 52.6 of Civil Service Law. Appointments via transfer must not result in a second, consecutive transfer with an advancement of more than two S-grades or one M-grade. Eligible titles include, but are not limited to: Legal Assnt 2. Applicants who are eligible for appointment via transfer may need to meet additional special requirements to be eligible for consideration. Please be advised that the New York State Insurance Fund does not offer sponsorship for employment visas to employees or potential employees.     This title is part of the New York Hiring for Emergency Limited Placement Statewide Program (NY HELPS). For the duration of the
    NY HELPS
    Program, this title may be filled via a non-competitive appointment, which means no examination is required but all candidates must meet the minimum qualifications of the title for which they apply. At a future date, it is expected employees hired under
    NY HELPS
    will have their non-competitive employment status converted to competitive status, without having to compete in an examination. Employees will then be afforded with all the same rights and privileges of competitive class employees of New York State. While serving permanently in a
    NY HELPS
    title, employees may take part in any promotion examination for which they are qualified.
