Job Description

Bailiff - Certified Police Officer

Fayetteville, GA Summary Objective The purpose of this position is to perform the daily operations of court/warrant services and transporting offenders from other jail facilities to the Fayette County Jail or courts. The Bailiff/Police Officer is responsible for court security to include protection of the Judge, controlling inmates, conducting and providing physical security for the court. This class works independently, under limited supervision of the OPS Captain of the Police Department. Essential Functions The essential functions listed below are those that represent the majority of the time spent working in this class. Management may assign additional functions related to the type of work of the class as necessary. Research, contacts and serves department warrants both in and outside the City. . Complete all paperwork and reports as required. Secures personal belongings of arrestees. Maintains all necessary equipment. Maintains custody and escort/transfer of prisoner(s). Maintains a dignified and professional atmosphere in the courtroom. Enters warrants into computer system. Conduct a search of the courtroom before Court for weapons and contraband. Provide general security for all persons attending Court. Provide security and safety for the Court, including keeping order in the Court and making arrests if necessary. Inspect packages and persons coming into the courtroom in a reasonable manner. Recognize and handle suspicious packages/persons. Announcement of the opening and closing of the Municipal Court. Summon officers and witnesses to testify. Transport prisoners to and from Court. Pick up prisoners from various facilities for transport to Fayetteville. Executes and explains warrants to arrestees. Performs related work as assigned.
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements:
High School graduation or GED equivalent. Sic years of law enforcement experience or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
Physical Demands:
Physical demands refer to the requirements for physical exertion and coordination of limb and body movement. Performs medium work that involves walking, standing, stooping, jumping, dancing, stretching, or lifting all of the time and also involves exerting between 20 and 50 pounds of force on a regular and recurring basis or exceptional skill, adeptness and speed in the use of the fingers, hands or limbs in tasks involving very close tolerances or limits of accuracy. Unavoidable Hazards (Work Environment): Unavoidable hazards refer to the job conditions that may lead to injury or health hazards even though precautions have been taken.
None Special Certifications and Licenses:
Must possess Georgia Base Peace Officer Certification. Must possess and maintain a valid state driver's license with an acceptable driving history.
