Davenport, Iowa Job Summary Under general supervision, the Bailiff provides security for the Scott County Courthouse by screening visitors, escorting inmates, and monitoring court proceedings. ILLUSTRATIVE

Employees are required to be in attendance and prepared to begin work at their assigned work location on the specified days and hours. Factors such as regular attendance at the job are not routinely listed in job descriptions, but are an essential function. Essential duties and responsibilities may include, but are not limited to, the following: Uses an X-ray/ metal detector to screen people entering the Scott County courthouse for weapons and non-authorized items; confiscates any contraband before allowing entry, monitors video camera system. Monitors District Court trials; escorts inmates to maintain order in the court and ensure the safety of those in attendance. Provides security and guidance to individuals that need assistance; provides security and an escort to the parking lot for protected individuals. Provides medical transports to hospitals and doctor's offices; picks-up individuals on outstanding warrants and may serve warrant; provides inmate transport to and from prisons and County jails. Completes reports on incidents and documentation of warrants served. Demonstrates the ability to exemplify, by his/her actions, the County PRIDE philosophy. Performs related duties as assigned. Standards for
Initial Consideration Education, Training, and Experience Guidelines:
High school diploma or GED equivalent; AND some previous law enforcement, corrections, or military experience; OR an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
Knowledge of:
Applicable local, State, and Federal laws, codes, regulations, and ordinances. Court procedures. Basic legal terminology. Conflict negotiation and defusing methods.
Skill in:
Interacting tactfully and professionally with County staff, inmates, outside agencies, and the public. Resolving and de-escalating conflicts. Maintaining composure and working effectively under stress. Establishing and maintaining cooperative working relationships. Communicating effectively verbally and in writing. Handling a firearm safely. Evaluating situations to determine and apply proper use of force. Supplemental Information License and Certification Requirements Must possess a valid Driver's license. Must successfully complete firearms and weapons training courses.
Physical Demands and Working Environment:
Work performed in County courthouse and administration facilities requires exposure to potentially dangerous situations and potential physical harm from violent inmates. May be required to apply physical force and defensive tactics to prevent or de-escalate dangerous altercations. May require overnight stay for distant transports.
