Description
This position requires a working knowledge of law enforcement, legal, and judicial procedures. The individual has daily contact with the public.
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.
Duties include the following:
Prepare courtroom for Trials & Hearings (usually daily; includes safety of court participants, intake of prisoners, and other duties as directed by District Judges). Assist District Judges, Court Coordinator/Administrator, and District Clerk with daily court activities, including but not limited to, calling dockets, impaneling juries, scheduling cases, and researching legal issues. Provide security for the Judge and Court Personnel. Responsible for care, custody, and control of jurors assigned to District Court. Other duties as assigned by a District Judge or the District Court Regional Administrator. Attendance is an essential function of the job.Note:

EDUCATION and/orEXPERIENCE
High school diploma or GED equivalent is required. The individual should possess a thorough knowledge of law enforcement procedures and practices, have computer skills/proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint), ability to perform internet legal & general research, and able to do basic statistical compilations. In addition, a minimum of three (3) years' experience in law enforcement is desirable. Two (2) years of experience in courtroom operations is a plus. While not required, post-secondary education or training in the criminal justice or legal field is also a plus.CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS
Other specialized job requirements include a valid Texas Driver's License and a basic Law Enforcement Certification with the Texas Commission on Law Enforcement (TCOLE). Must be able to meet TCOLE and department requirements for psychological and medical examinations. Must pass a written entrance exam and physical agility test.LANGUAGE SKILLS
Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization. Must be able to display self-control and a calm demeanor while being both firm and cordial with court participants.MATHEMATICAL SKILLS
Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.REASONING ABILITY
Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.PHYSICAL DEMANDS
