Duties and Responsibilities Note:
The following duties are illustrative and not exhaustive. Depending on assigned area of responsibility, incumbents in the position may perform one or more of the activities described below. Receives, processes, and disposes of biological samples and preparing specimens for analysis. Maintains inventory and orders laboratory supplies. Administrative data entry and preparing toxicology reports. Performs laboratory quality assurance and safety checks. Prepares reagents. Performs other related duties as required. Job Specifications Working knowledge of terminology and techniques used in a toxicology laboratory. Working knowledge of basic laboratory equipment (including balances, pipettes, centrifuges, pH meter, etc.). Ability to follow laboratory instructions. Ability to conduct basic laboratory tests. Ability to perform basic mathematical calculations. Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing. Detail oriented. Physical Requirements Ability to lift 50 pounds. Ability to stand or sit for long periods of time. Working Conditions Work is performed in a laboratory environment with biohazardous materials and chemical hazards. Work Category Medium Work
  • Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 20 pounds or force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
Minimum Qualifications Required Associates degree from an accredited institution in a natural science in chemistry, biochemistry, forensic science, or related field; AND One year experience in a laboratory; OR An equivalent combination of education (not less than a high school diploma/GED), training, and experience that would reasonably be expected to provide the job‐related competencies noted above; AND Possession of a valid Florida Driver's License. Emergency Management Responsibilities In the event of an emergency or disaster, an employee may be required to respond promptly to duties and responsibilities as assigned by the employee's department, the County's Office of Emergency Management, or County Administration. Such assignments may be for before, during or after the emergency/disaster.
