Job Description

We have an opportunity for you to step off the sidelines and join a team with decades of stability and the wisdom to continue to evolve. Northwest Center Against Sexual Assault NWCASA is a local nonprofit rape crisis center whose mission is to empower individuals impacted by sexual harm and engage communities to end sexual violence. We are dedicated to the empowerment of communities who have experienced sexual violence. Our agency provides the following free services; crisis intervention via a 24-hour crisis hotline, medical and legal advocacy, counseling, prevention education, and community outreach. We serve the North and Northwest Suburbs of Cook County as well as McHenry County. We have served the needs of our community for 50 years and continue to do impactful work towards ending sexual violence.
Position Objective:
The Bilingual Advocate position at Northwest Center Against Sexual Assault (NWCASA) is a full time Advocacy position out of both McHenry & our Cook County office. The Advocate will provide 24/7 crisis response to the emergency rooms of local hospitals, provide support and information to victims of sexual violence; provide court advocacy at the Woodstock, Rolling Meadows, and Skokie Courthouse on behalf of clients, conduct outreach in McHenry and Cook County and surrounding communities as well as work with a team of dedicated counselors and advocates.
Responsibilities and Duties:
1. 24/7 Crisis Response Provide 24-hour support to center hotline performing crisis intervention and in-person medical/legal advocacy services, assume shifts that are not covered by volunteers, and serve as primary back to a volunteer as needed Rotating assigned weekend coverage & holidays with agency staff Will assist in providing coverage in Cook & McHenry County when teammates take time off 2. Individual Criminal Justice Advocacy Provide assistance and support to survivors of sexual violence throughout the criminal justice process at the county courthouses and police departments 3. Institutional Advocacy Provide institutional advocacy services to medical and legal institutions and related agencies on behalf of survivors of sexual violence To participate in selective committees, meetings, coalitions and related activities for the purpose of coordinating legal and medical advocacy services and improving treatment of survivors 4. Professional Training Develop and provide professional training for medical and law enforcement personnel Follow ICASA's Continued Education Standards 5. Individual Medical Advocacy Provide information and support to survivors of sexual violence and their significant others at local hospitals Provide follow up contact to survivors of sexual violence as needed Follow each Counties Protocol for Medical responses 6. Other Duties Perform day to day administrative tasks including, but not limited to, time & effort reporting and the maintenance of service provision records Meeting agency advocacy goals as set with a minimum of 500 direct service hours performed per fiscal year Other duties as assigned
Qualifications and Skills:
Bachelor's degree, preferably in human services, psychology, criminal justice or related field; OR experience in a related field Bilingual Spanish speaking candidates strongly encouraged to apply Knowledge of sexual violence issues and the criminal justice system Knowledge of working within medical systems Ability to deal sensitively with victims of sexual violence and their significant others Ability to integrate into a team setting, as well as work independently, prioritizing needs of the department Some public speaking Ability to provide own transportation, as a licensed driver, with liability insurance Ability to work a flexible schedule including days, nights, and weekends Completion of an ICASA approved 40 Hour Sexual Assault Crisis Intervention Training preferred
