Job Duties:
Responsible for investigating deaths occurring within the jurisdiction of the Jackson County Medical Examiner's office. Writes complete, accurate, and comprehensive statements of the investigations to support the Medical Examiner's examination in establishing cause of death. Conducts on-site investigations to determine the circumstances surrounding death including time of death and probable cause of death; and collects medical records and demographic information
Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor's Degree in Criminal Justice or Biological Sciences that includes anatomy or physiology is preferred and/or one (1) year of full-time experience as a medical investigator, deputy coroner, law enforcement officer, mortician, paramedic/emergency medical technician, firefighter, registered nurse, or related field. A combination of education and/or experience will be considered. Must have the ability to obtain a Medicolegal Death Investigator registration within first year of employment. Must possess/maintain a valid Driver's License. Must submit to/pass pre-employment background check and drug screen.
