Taylor County is seeking applications for the professional position of Death Investigator.

Summary:

The Death Investigator performs technical investigative work for deaths that are reportable to the Justice of the Peace offices. Work involves communication with other investigators, law enforcement agencies, hospitals, the decedent's family, and the general public. Work requires travel to locations of deaths within the county. The investigator is responsible for examining the decedent, photographing evidence and injuries, as well as making death notifications.

Essential Functions:

Investigate all Deaths as required by law Attend death scenes and work cooperatively with law enforcement or transport/funeral home personnel Interview family of decedent, witnesses and other persons with relevant information about death to determine cause and manner of death Provide written and oral reports to Justices of the Peace regarding investigation findings Work with the Justices of the Peace regarding best practices and any issues that may arise.

Working Conditions:

Majority of work is outside in the field investigating county citizen deaths to which different outdoor environmental hazards may be present.

Work Schedule:

The standard work shift schedule would be as needed with holidays and weekends TBD. A shift rotation will be established and adjusted as needed after an evaluation period. A standard on-call shift rotation schedule will be outlined and discussed with the Department Head during the interview process and upon hire.

Physical Demands:

Work involves a significant amount of standing, walking, sitting, stooping, lifting, talking, and active listening.

Minimum Education:

High School Diploma or equivalent

Minimum Qualifications:

Clean criminal history Good driving record Superb communication skills Ability to perform duties in a professional manner on death scenes

Preferred Qualifications:

Current or former certified peace officer Military experience Training or Education in the medical or forensics field.

Starting Salary:

$38,000.00 annually + benefits.
