Hiring Agency Justice & Public Safety Cabinet | Department of Corrections Location 266 Water Street Eddyville, KY 42038 USA Description Creating a Better, Safer Kentucky At the Kentucky State Penitentiary, the mission is to promote safety for the citizens of the Commonwealth of Kentucky by operating an efficient adult correctional institution. Our main purpose is to provide a safe, secure, and humane environment for its residents and to prepare incarcerated felons for a successful reintegration into society using constructive classification, employment training programs, treatment services, and social programs. The Corrections Unit Administrator I plays a vital role in this mission by supervising employees and inmates within assigned program units. Responsibilities include but are not limited to: Supervise employees within assigned units. Manage duties and ensure post coverage. Oversee casework needs within the unit. Serve on institutional committees. Assist the Corrections Unit Administrator II as needed. Investigate and report on incidents, accidents, and alleged policy violations. The ideal candidate for this job will show excellent leadership skills, organizational skills, and communication skills. They will be able to work under pressure and be a team player. All applicants must meet all federal and state laws applicable to the carrying, use, and possession of firearms and ammunition at the time of employment. EDUCATION
Graduate of a college or university with a bachelor's degree.
EXPERIENCE, TRAINING, OR SKILLS
Two years of experience in any operation or program within the field of corrections, law enforcement, criminal justice, or social work dealing with the rehabilitation of offenders. Substitute

EXPERIENCE
A master's degree in corrections, criminal justice, law enforcement, social work, sociology, counseling and guidance, or a related field will substitute for one year of the required experience. Substitute

EDUCATION
Additional experience in any operation or program within the field of corrections, law enforcement, criminal justice, or social work dealing with the rehabilitation of offenders will substitute for the education on a year-for-year basis.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
(AGE, LICENSURE, REGULATION, ETC.): NONE Working Conditions Work is generally performed within a correctional institution. Work environment is hazardous due to working in a state correctional facility with inmates. Probationary Period This job has an initial and promotional probationary period of 6 months, except as provided in
KRS 18A.111.
