General Job Description:
Announced in Anticipation of Approval by the Administrative Board This is administrative correctional work planning, directing, and coordinating the activities at a municipal correctional institution. Conferring with inmates and their representatives and supervising a large staff of correctional personnel are significant aspects of the work. Work is performed under the direction of an administrative superior. Work involves conditions which can only partially be controlled and requires being available for emergencies 24 hours a day.
The Requirements are as follows:
1.
EDUCATION
OPTION 1: Completion of 60 college credits at an accredited college or university which has included major coursework in Criminal Justice, Public Administration, Business Administration, Behavioral Science, or a related field.
OR OPTION 2
Completion of 30 college credits from an accredited college or university and certification from the American Correctional Association as a Certified Corrections Executive.
NOTE:
Additional correctional experience at the Deputy Warden level or equivalent external experience may substitute for the education required for either option on a year for year basis.
AND 2. GENERAL EXPERIENCE
Eight years of correctional and/or rehabilitative experience in a correctional institution including six years supervising staff engaged in such services.
AND 3. SPECIFIC EXPERIENCE
Two years directing, through subordinate supervisors, a social service program in a correctional institution OR directing, through subordinate supervisors, the custody and rehabilitation of inmates at a correctional facility.
