Job Description

Suwannee Correctional Institution Agency:
Florida Department of Corrections Job Title:
Certified & Non-Certified Correctional Officer Job Overview:
Correctional Officers are responsible for the supervision, care, custody, control and physical restraint, when necessary, of inmates in a Correctional Institution or Facility. No prior experience is necessary, all training is provided.
Responsibilities and Duties:
Supervise inmates Observe traffic in and around the compound Monitor, supervise and screen inmate visitor traffic Make periodic patrols of quarters and work areas Maintain proper security of inmates being transported Maintain knowledge of communication and other electronic equipment Maintain and demonstrate proficiency in the use and care of firearms, restraint methods and equipment and emergency measures Maintain a record of equipment, supplies and other items Check inmate mail for possible contraband
Qualifications:
Be at least 18 years of age. No Experience is Necessary. Possess a High School Diploma or GED. Possess a Valid Driver's License. Be a U.S. Citizen. Pass a Drug Test and Physical Exam. Must not have Dishonorable Discharge from the Military. Pass a Background Investigation & Fingerprinting, which includes; no Felony convictions; no Misdemeanor involving Perjury or False Statement; no Misdemeanor conviction of Domestic Violence. Must demonstrate Good Moral Character as determined by a thorough Background Investigation.
