Facility Location Ellsworth Correctional Facility 1607 State Street Ellsworth, KS 67439 Benefits Starting salary of $48,963.20 annually Medical, dental, and vision insurance Paid vacation, sick leave, and state holidays Paid parental, military, jury duty, and bereavement leave Kansas retirement and deferred compensation plans Paid training and professional development Career advancement opportunities throughout KDOC Wellness and employee assistance programs Stable state employment with excellent benefits What You'll Do As a Correctional Officer, you'll play a vital role in maintaining the safety and security of the facility while supervising incarcerated individuals and supporting daily operations.
Responsibilities include:
Supervise incarcerated individuals in housing units, dining areas, classrooms, work assignments, and recreation Maintain safety, security, and order by enforcing facility rules and policies Conduct resident counts, pat-downs, and security searches to prevent contraband Escort incarcerated individuals throughout the facility and to outside appointments when necessary Observe behavior, document incidents, and prepare accurate reports Respond to emergencies using approved safety procedures and intervention techniques Patrol the facility and perimeter to maintain a secure environment Operate radios, restraints, and other security equipment Provide first aid or CPR when necessary Encourage accountability and positive behavior through professional interactions Minimum Qualifications Must be at least 18 years of age High school diploma or GED Successfully complete the written examination and physical fitness test Pass a background investigation, medical examination, and drug screening No felony convictions No DUI convictions within the past 24 months No drug use or possession convictions within the past 60 months Preferred Qualifications Correctional Officer Certification (earned through KDOC Basic Training) CPR/First Aid certification Previous experience in corrections, law enforcement, military, or security Why Choose KDOC?
