Responsibilities include:
Supervise incarcerated individuals in housing units, work assignments, classrooms, dining areas, recreation, and other program areas Maintain safety, security, and order by enforcing facility rules and policies Conduct resident counts, security inspections, and searches to prevent contraband Monitor behavior, document incidents, and prepare accurate reports Respond to emergencies using approved safety procedures, de-escalation techniques, and physical intervention when necessary Escort incarcerated individuals throughout the facility as required Operate radios, restraints, and other security equipment Work collaboratively with fellow staff to maintain a secure environment Provide first aid or CPR when necessary Minimum Qualifications Must be at least 18 years of age High school diploma or GED Valid driver's license Pass a background investigation, physical examination, and drug screening No felony convictions No adult misdemeanor domestic battery convictions (unless eligible under Kansas law) Kansas Tax Clearance required following a conditional offer of employment Preferred Qualifications Correctional Officer Certification (earned through KDOC Basic Training) CPR/First Aid certification and annual weapons qualification Previous experience in corrections, law enforcement, military, or security Strong communication, observation, and conflict resolution skills Why Choose KDOC?
