Norton Correctional Facility is state owned and operated prison under the Kansas Department of Corrections. Norton Correctional Facility is a prison comprised of minimum, low, and medium incarcerated residents. Norton Correctional Facility is split into two different physical locations, Norton, KS housing Central Unit and Stockton, KS housing East Unit. $27.25+ hourly / $56,680.00+ annually Salary can vary depending upon education, experience, or qualifications. Employment Benefits Comprehensive medical, mental, dental, vision, and additional coverage Sick & Vacation leave Work-Life Balance programs: parental leave, military leave, jury leave, funeral leave Paid State Holidays (designated by the Governor annually) Fitness Centers in select locations Employee discounts with the STAR Program Retirement and deferred compensation programs Visit the Employee Benefits page for more information… Position Summary & Responsibilities The Corrections Officer II serves as officer in charge or second officer this involves supervises, maintains discipline and control of inmates in their living quarters, work sites, at meals, in classrooms, in the hospital, kitchen and bathing areas; while they are segregated for punitive, protective and administrative purposes, while they are on work details (inside and outside). Additionally, the CO II is responsible for observing inmate activity and interactions in the area of responsibility. Enforces policies, rules and regulations. Monitors deviations in inmate behavior. Reports incidents or behaviors that deviate from the inmate's general profile or that could cause an immediate problem. Discusses behavior changes with Corrections Officer I's under supervision. The CO II does shake downs of physical areas of the facility as directed or upon own initiative in order to prevent and control the secreting of contraband in living units, stairways, work areas, recreation areas, etc. Follows established security procedure in controlling visitors, staff, inmate and vehicular traffic to prevent the admittance or exit of unauthorized persons and the introduction of contraband. Takes and reports periodic counts of inmates to ensure that all are present and accounted for.Minimum Qualifications:
Must meet all minimum qualifications and necessary special requirements for CO I A; have a minimum of one year of relevant experience in the field of corrections or in the detention of convicted offenders; and have successfully completed the Corrections Officer Training Program (COTP). At the discretion of the agency, relevant college coursework or completion of corrections officer training in another jurisdiction may be substituted for some or all of the required COTP.Post-Offer, Pre-employment Requirements:
Must have a Valid High School Diploma or Equivalent. Must have a Valid Driver's License. Must be able to perform the essential functions of the position.
