Norton Correctional Facility is a prison comprised of minimum, low, and medium incarcerated residents. Norton Correctional Facility is split into two different physical locations, Norton, KS housing Central Unit and Stockton, KS housing East Unit. This includes independently managing cases or collaborating with departmental units and external law enforcement partners while ensuring full compliance with applicable laws, regulations, and departmental policies. Core responsibilities include interviewing victims, witnesses, inmates, and staff to obtain accurate case information; securing, processing, and evaluating complex crime scenes; identifying, collecting, and preserving physical evidence; and conducting systematic searches to confirm or refute allegations of misconduct or criminal activity. The investigator prepares thorough case files, maintains chain of custody, and performs arrests when warranted. The role also requires gathering, analyzing, and disseminating intelligence from inmates, staff, the public, and partner agencies. Investigators review incident, use-of-force, surveillance, arrest, and intelligence reports to identify relevant information and ensure compliance with statutes and departmental directives. Maintaining strong working relationships with KDOC personnel and local, state, and federal law enforcement is essential for ongoing intelligence sharing and operational awareness. A significant component of the position involves monitoring Security Threat Group (STG) activity. This includes collecting and evaluating intelligence on STG members, assessing risks to facility operations and safety, maintaining detailed STG documentation, and collaborating with external criminal justice entities to validate and analyze threat levels. Investigators work with supervisors and administrators to develop strategies to deter STG behavior and enhance institutional security.
Minimum Qualifications :
Must meet all minimum qualifications and necessary special requirements for CO I A; be at least 21 years of age at time of appointment; have two years of relevant experience in the field of corrections or in the detention of convicted offenders; and have successfully completed the Corrections Officer Training Program (COTP). At the discretion of the agency, relevant college coursework or completion of corrections officer training in another jurisdiction may be substituted for some or all of the required COTP.

Must have a Valid High School Diploma or Equivalent. Must have a Valid Driver's License. Must be able to perform the essential functions of the position. Must take and pass drug screen, background check, and Tuberculosis (TB) test. Must be a current United States Citizen.
