Job Description

MUST BE 21 YEARS OLD OR OLDER
Road Crew Deputies are responsible for supervising inmates in the work program. The Deputy oversees work details in various public settings, due to this environment the deputy must be alert to both public and inmate safety at all times. Search inmates, vehicles, and conduct searches of cells for contraband, such as weapons or drugs. Settle disputes between inmates. Monitor conduct of inmates in housing unit, during work, or recreational activities, according to established policies and procedures, to prevent escape or violence. Inspect conditions of locks, windows, doors, and gates at the facility to ensure security and help prevent escapes. Conduct head counts to ensure that all inmates are present. Use required force to maintain discipline and order among prisoners. Counsel inmates and respond to legitimate questions, concerns, and requests. Participate in required job training. Provide to supervisors oral and written reports of the quality and quantity of work performed by inmates, inmate disturbances and rule violations, and unusual occurrences. Record information, such as inmate identification, charges, and incidents of inmate disturbance, keeping daily logs of inmate activities. Conduct fire, safety, and sanitation inspections. Serve meals, distribute commissary items, and dispense prescribed medication to inmates. Assign duties to inmates, providing instructions as needed. Issue clothing, tools, and other authorized items to inmates. Escort inmates to locations within and outside of facility, such as medical, attorney visits, courtroom, church services, or medical appointments. Maintain records of inmates' identification and charges. Drive passenger vehicles and trucks used to transport inmates to other institutions, courtrooms, hospitals, and work sites. Arrange daily schedules for inmates, including library visits, work assignments, and appointments.
