Job Description

Pay and Special Entrance Rates (SER) Earn up to $53,000 per year
Premium Pay :
$.50•$1.00/hour based on years of service (in addition to regular pay)
Incentive Pay :
Additional pay for eligible Associate or Bachelor's Degrees in Behavioral Science, Criminal Justice, Psychology, Social Work, or related fields Why Work for DOC?

Defined benefit pension plan , health insurance (including post-retirement), 10+ paid holidays , sick and annual leave , overtime pay , deferred compensation , and flexible benefits plan Position Specific Duties Attend six-week Correctional Officer Training Academy Maintain custody, care, and security of inmates in prison housing units, dorms, workshops, and fields Conduct security checks, searches, and shakedowns of inmates, housing areas, and work locations Supervise inmate work crews, housing, meals, and recreation Escort and transport inmates ; provide security for staff Patrol prison areas and respond to emergencies and disturbances Prepare reports and maintain accurate documentation Receive firearms training and follow departmental policies Minimum Qualifications High school diploma or GED OR one year of continuous employment in any field 18 years of age or older Valid driver's license required Disqualifications under law: Conviction of a felony or misdemeanor domestic violence , or indictment for a felony (unless relief is granted under state/federal law) Disqualification under Prison Rape Elimination Act (PREA) for past sexual abuse or prohibited conduct Additional Information No Civil Service Test required for this vacancy Applicants must pass drug screening , background investigation , and provide official documentation (transcripts, licenses, DD-214 if applicable) Resumes will not replace completed applications ; incomplete applications may be rejected Positions may be filled as Temporary Appointments , with conversion to probationary if permanent vacancies arise This is a 24-hour facility ; applicants may be required to work shift work, nights, weekends, and holidays This agency is a Drug Free Workplace Equal Opportunity Employer The Louisiana Department of Public Safety and Corrections•Corrections Services is an Equal Opportunity Employer and does not discriminate based on disability or any non-merit factor.
