Detention Officer

The Nash County Sheriff's Office located in Nashville, NC is currently accepting applications for Detention Officers to work inside our Detention Center. The Detention Center houses inmates who are awaiting trial, and some inmates who are serving shorter sentences after trial. Our current inmate population averages around 300 inmates at the time, but are separated into different dorms or cells. Detention Officers are responsible for the supervision and well-being of inmates. This includes ensuring facility security, operation of the door lock system, monitoring of cameras, feeding of inmates, cell searches, booking and releasing of inmates, commissary, etc. There is significant inmate contact in this position. Detention Officers work 12 hour shifts of either per from 7a-7p or 7p-7a, however due to the schedule, you typically only work 14 days a month, but are required to work every other weekend. We have openings on both day shift and night shift. Are you interested in a career in law enforcement, but don't know where to start? This is how you get your foot in the door. Starting salary is $49,266 plus you get paid for 12 holidays a year whether you work them or not. If you are a previously certified Detention Officer with at least three (3) or more experience, then you may possibly be hired at our Senior Detention Officer level which includes a higher starting salary.
