Job Description

Correction Officer Trainee Albany, NY 1 DAYS AGO 22665002 Summary Albany, NY Remote $66365.00 per Year 0 Months Experience High school graduate or equivalency certificate (GED) No Commission 40.00 hours per week / Day, Evening, Night, Weekend Shift / Full-Time Description •The salary range includes a $5,000 annual geographic pay for all locations throughout New York State. Appointees who work in the five boroughs of New York City or in Nassau, Suffolk, Rockland, or Westchester Counties will receive an additional $4,623 annual downstate adjustment. Appointees who work in Dutchess, Orange, or Putnam Counties will receive an additional $1,846 annual mid-Hudson adjustment. Individual starting salaries vary based on work location and the employee's experience. Additional compensation, such as inconvenience pay (up to $2,066 annually), pre-shift briefing pay (minimally $2,080 annually), expanded duty pay (up to $3,400 annually), and hazardous duty pay (up to $2,375 annually), may also be available.
Minimum Qualifications:
At the time of appointment, you must meet the following requirements: 1. You must be at least 18 years of age. 2. You must have graduated from high school or have earned a high school equivalency diploma (such as a GED) or have attained a higher-level degree requiring a high school level education (i.e., associate, bachelor's). 3. By New York State law, a Correction Officer is a peace officer and must be qualified to hold such office and must be a United States citizen. 4. Correction Officers are Public Officers. New York State residency is not required to take the training and experience examination. New York State residency is required to accept employment prior to September 1, 2025. Effective September 1, 2025, New York State residency will no longer be required to accept employment. Additional Requirements for
Appointment:
1. All appointees will be employed as trainees. 2. Your high school diploma, equivalency diploma, or degree must have been awarded by a high school, college or educational institution accredited by a regional, national, or specialized agency recognized as an accrediting agency by the United States (U.S.) Department of Education/Secretary of Education. If awarded by an institution outside of the U.S. and its territories, you must provide independent verification of equivalency. Language Proficiency:
If you pass the examination and apply to a title which requires language proficiency, you must demonstrate your language proficiency at a level that will ensure your ability to perform the duties of the position properly. The proficiency test will only be given to enough candidates to fill current vacancies. 4. If you submit an application for No. 20-616010 Correction Officer Trainee (Spanish Language), an application will automatically be submitted for you for No. 20-615010 Correction Officer Trainee. 5.
Physical/Medical Requirements:
Your physical and medical condition will be evaluated to ensure that you are able to satisfactorily perform the duties of this position with or without reasonable accommodation. The physical/medical standards include a fitness test, a medical standards evaluation, and a substance abuse screening. Appointees to this position may be required to undergo periodic medical examinations to reassess their ability to perform the essential duties of the position. 6.
Drug Testing:
Prior to appointment, you will be required to participate in a drug-screening test. Cannabis use is not permitted for employees in this title. Cannabis use will be tested for during the pre-employment screening process and may be the basis for disqualification for employment or may be a basis for removal from employment.
