Job Summary Position SummaryJoin the Department of Corrections as a Corrections Officer Trainee at SCI Forest. This entry‑level role offers hands‑on training and support as you learn to maintain safety and order within a state correctional facility.
ResponsibilitiesInteract with inmates and visitors in direct and indirect situations.
Monitor inmate movement and activities in cellblocks, housing units, work areas, dining spaces, and recreation areas to maintain security.
Conduct periodic and unannounced rounds, head counts, security checks, and report unusual situations.
Work a full‑time 40‑hour schedule with shifts as required, including weekends, holidays, and adverse weather conditions.
Participate in formal instruction in sociology, psychology, court procedures, self‑defense, leadership, custodial responsibilities, and the facility's structure.
Provide guidance to inmates on adjustment to correctional processes and agency rules.
Prepare detailed reports and respond quickly and safely during emergencies.
Wear employer‑provided uniforms and follow collective‑bargaining agreement provisions.
QualificationsPA residency requirement is waived.
Successful completion of basic training in Elizabethtown, PA.Must be able to perform essential job functions.
Pass a background investigation and meet CJIS compliance.
Complete a medical exam, psychological evaluation, and drug urinalysis screening.
Eligible for full retirement benefits at age 50 or 55.
