WELFARE AND ATTENDANCE ADVISOR BASIC FUNCTION
Perform duties relating to child welfare and attendance including processing of appropriate documents; implement State rules and regulations relating to compulsory school attendance, admission and intra/inter-District laws, rules and policies.
REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES
Individual positions may not perform all of the duties listed nor do these examples include all responsibilities of positions in this class. Enforce compulsory school attendance laws as provided in Education Code and District policies; advise students and parent groups on education objectives and school resources and facilities; enroll students in Friday and Saturday school. E Contact parents at their home to obtain information about students; provide information and counsel parents on issues related to school policies and programs and related attendance laws; discuss irregular attendance; transport students to and from school as assigned. E Promote students' educational and vocational programs; refer students and families to local health care and other service agencies as required. E Maintain accurate and complete records of cases; prepare papers for court process; serve subpoenas and represent the District in court hearings; make recommendations to court for placement. E Participate and serve on SARB panels and attend various District meetings; attend community meetings; determine and respond to ethnic groups regarding school-related needs. E Attend after school functions; explain services available to students and families; prepare reports on activities. E Contact social service agencies to obtain information on parent/student counseling referrals, neglect or abuse cases and information on probation status. E Operate a variety of office equipment including a computer and assigned software; prepare and maintain truancy letter logs, contact files, SARB logs and other related information. E Ability to deal with volatile situations while making home visits. E Perform related duties as assigned.

State and local laws, rules and regulations relating to attendance. Effective community relations techniques and principles. Community resources available to ethnic groups. Record-keeping techniques. Operation of a computer terminal and data entry techniques. Oral and written communication skills. Policies and objectives of assigned program and activities. Interpersonal skills using tact, patience and courtesy. Technical aspects of field of specialty. Diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, and ethnic backgrounds of District students and parents.
ABILITY TO
Learn and function within organization and department objectives. Determine, use and promote community resources available to ethnic groups. Prepare and deliver oral presentations. Establish and maintain cooperative and effective working relationships with others. Maintain records and prepare reports. Operate a computer terminal to enter data, maintain records and generate reports. Determine appropriate action within clearly defined guidelines. Work independently with little direction.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Any combination equivalent to: high school diploma or equivalent either supplemented by college-level course work in social sciences or related field or increasingly responsible experience in the area of student attendance.
LICENSES AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS
Valid California driver's license.
WORKING CONDITIONS
ENVIRONMENT:
Indoor and outdoor work environment. Driving a vehicle to conduct work.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
Sitting for extended periods of time. Dexterity of hands and fingers to operate a computer keyboard. Walking to locate addresses and look for students. Bending at the waist to retrieve files.
HAZARDS:
