The Court Reporter will record testimony and legal proceedings in a court of law using stenography equipment or shorthand. Responsibilities also include completion of transcripts and maintaining the official Court transcript according to law. The typical starting salary is $34.44 hourly. Duties Record examination, testimony, judicial opinions, and judge's charge to jury, judgment or sentence of court or other proceedings in a court of law using shorthand, a stenotype machine or audiotape. Read portions of transcript during trial on judge's request and ask speakers to clarify inaudible statements. Perform other duties as required or assigned. Skills Proficiency in Microsoft Word for document formatting and editing Strong transcription skills with excellent listening accuracy and fast typing speed Solid computer skills, including familiarity with court reporting software and digital recording devices Previous experience in legal administrative roles or court reporting is highly desirable Exceptional attention to detail to ensure precise record-keeping and transcript quality Effective communication skills for coordinating with court personnel and legal professionals Ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment while managing multiple priorities
