Job Description

Work involves performing a variety of office, clerical, and technical work pertaining to the criminal justice process at the Pueblo County Sheriff's Office. Accurately processes, types, records and/or files a wide variety of records, reports and materials using computer equipment which includes memos, letters, complaints, declarations, dispositions, warrants or reports from handwritten copy or audiotapes. Performs clerical functions in a criminal justice environment; type case reports which include profane language, distasteful or graphic portrayals and in-depth descriptions of criminal conduct. Performs data entry; updates, researches, stores and retrieves data using a variety of computer systems. Maintains accuracy, confidentiality and security of all records and work area. Exercises considerable independent judgment I giving out information and referring inquiries to the proper staff or agency. Sorts and distributes mail, as needed. Exercises good organizational skills while demonstrating the ability to be detail oriented in carrying out assigned tasks. Works in a secured environment, responsible for screening visitors and making decisions that affect the safety of a facility. As required, serves as a resource person to the public or other employees in giving out information and referring inquiries to the proper staff or agency; makes independent judgments on types of information to be provided based on a broad based knowledge of requirements of the position as well as knowledge of how previous similar incidents were handled. Maintains computerized records and hard copy files in division. Required to work shifts as needed. Performs special studies and projects as assigned and required. Notarizes articles for public, agency documents and others as required. Answers phones and greet and assist visitors; respond to request or refer to appropriate resources. Performs other duties as appropriate or necessary for performance of the job. Candidates must be at least 18 years of age and have a high school diploma or GED. Candidates must have a minimum of two years of progressively responsible clerical and/or computer experience in a customer service-related field. Candidates must be able to type 45 net words per minute. (An official typing certificate will be required.) An associate's degree from an accredited college or university is preferred. An
NCIC/CCIC
certification is preferred. A notary public certification is preferred The selection process includes, but is not limited to, an interview. Prior to employment, candidates will complete a background investigation, polygraph examination, and physical examination to include a drug screen. The expected duration of the selection process will normally not exceed two months. Candidates not selected may reapply in the future. Although the entire range is posted, the rate of pay for this position starts at $3,347.00 per month. This posting may be used to fill multiple openings.
