Job Description
Position Description This is a specialized Victim Advocate position that will be responsible for independent work acting as liaison between the Assistant State Attorney and victims of crime by providing crisis intervention, supportive counseling and resource/referral services to victims of sex crimes and domestic violence. Necessary Skills Possess a nonjudgmental attitude Possess the ability to establish empathetic relationships with crime victims Have the ability to communicate well, both verbally and in writing Have the ability to access community resources and advocate effectively for victims Duties Inform Victims of crime of rights within the criminal justice system/Constitution Provide crisis and supportive counseling to victims of Domestic Violence and Sex Crimes Accompany victims to pre-filing interviews, discovery depositions, and court appearances Assist victims to understand the criminal justice process Make referrals to appropriate community agencies Intervene on behalf of victims or their family members who are having difficulty accessing community services Provide Judicial Accompaniment to Community Resource referral appointments Assist victims/survivors in applying for Crime Victim Compensation Act as a liaison between victims and prosecutors Assist victims in developing and implementing viable safety plans Facilitate Judicial Support Groups / Psycho-Educational Facilitate training sessions to Prosecutors, Local Law Enforcement, and Community agencies to enhance trauma informed practices Maintain current and concise documentation of services provided Maintain current knowledge of SAO policies and procedures Maintain current knowledge of research/information related to domestic violence and sexual assault Minimum Requirements High school diploma or equivalency and two (2) years' experiences with work in the area of criminal justice, social science, counseling, public contact or customer service; or an equivalent combination of training and experience. OR Bachelor's Degree or MSW and one (1) year experience within the State Attorney's Office and/or work in the area of criminal justice, social science, counseling, public contact or customer service; or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
