Crime Analyst I - Staff Services City of West Palm Beach - 3.7 West Palm Beach, FL Job Details Full-time $27.55 - $34.44 an hour 22 hours ago Qualifications Class E Full Job Description Under limited supervision, gathers criminal information, analyzes crime patterns and trends, criminal intelligence information on criminals, prepares intelligence reports, and provides analytical support to all law enforcement personnel regarding special needs and requests; and performs other related duties as assigned.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
(Which are not in any hierarchical order) 1. Conducts research, gathers and compiles information, and analyzes data to identify crime patterns, makes interpretations, and writes comprehensive reports. 2. Prepares, maintains, and secures physical files on investigative research projects. 3. Research, updates, and interprets federal, state, and local secure terrorism intelligence and criminal databases and disseminates the information as needed. 4. Compiles and evaluates information, selects essential elements, and correlates new information with existing information. 5. Provides analytical support to all law enforcement personnel regarding special needs and requests. 6. Prepare graphs, charts, and tables; prepare reports and statistical analyses, link analysis, event flow analysis and activity charting. 7. Prepares and presents the Stratified Policing Reports and/or administrative Annual Reports. 8. Creates density and hot spot maps, identifies crime spree, hot spot, and series. 9. Attend various intelligence meetings and participate in detective meetings. 10. Assist detectives with investigations and identification of stolen and altered motor vehicles, title fraud, insurance fraud and other crimes. 11. Develops and maintains criminal intelligence sources and disseminates information on criminal activity. 12. Assists in the design, testing and/or maintenance of operational databases, analytical software, hardware, and peripheral equipment to enhance the quality of work product, improve productivity and ensure equipment is functioning properly. 13. Creates and conducts background investigations on potential employees. 14. Maintains administrative police databases. 15. Performs other related duties as assigned. Salary Depending on qualifications the starting salary for this position will be in the range of (Pay Grade 56): Minimum Range $27.55 - Midpoint Range $34.44 Excellent Benefits! Qualifications Associates degree with a major in Criminology, Criminal Justice, Applied Research or closely related field (education will be verified using the "Education Requirements" listed below) and two (2) years of work-related experience is required, or any equivalent combination of training and experience. Completion of a 40-hour basic criminal intelligence analyst course, recognized by the International Association of Law Enforcement Intelligence Analysts within six (6) months from date of employment, required. A current and valid Florida driver's license is required. For application purposes, a valid driver's license from any state (equivalent to a State of Florida Class E) may be utilized; with the ability to obtain the State of Florida driver's license within thirty (30) days from date of employment.
Education Requirements :
To be considered valid (or verified) for position qualification purposes, and consistent with City Hiring Policy 4-5, a High School, GED or equivalent diploma, and all higher education degrees or certifications must have been issued by: a) a public education institution in the State of Florida or any State or Territory of the United States; or b) an institution accredited by an accrediting organization that is recognized by the Florida Department of Education or the U.S. Department of Education; or c) an institution that is accredited by an organization that is recognized by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA); or d) an institution whose degree or certification is accepted by institutions identified in either a), b), or c), above, for the purpose of admission to institutions identified in either a), b), or c) above. International degrees will be evaluated to determine if they satisfy qualification requirements. Additional Details The selection process for this position may consist of any, all or a combination of the following tests: Evaluation of training and experience (minimum qualifications) Passing of oral interview/fingerprints Truth Verification Exam Background/criminal record evaluation Approval by Chief of Police, or designee Passing of physical/drug/alcohol screening Never convicted of a felony; or misdemeanor involving perjury, false statement, moral turpitude, or domestic violence.
State of Emergency:
When normal operations of City departments are suspended or interrupted due to a declaration by the Mayor that a state of emergency exists, all employees will be deemed critical by the City. For the preparation and/or continuation of emergency operations or for special work detail, employees deemed necessary shall be required to work. Employees deemed critical by the City but not needed for the initial preparation and/or continuation of emergency operations or for special work detail may be directed not to report to work, and given paid administrative leave or they may be reassigned to another location that best meet the needs of the City.
