Position:

This job opportunity is in the Medical Examiner's Office in OXFORD, MS, located in

LAFAYETTE COUNTY.

The incumbent will serve in a Death Investigator position and will be a comprehensive, multifaceted Medicolegal death investigations requiring in-depth subject matter knowledge, strong decision making, and superior written/verbal communication skills in a time-sensitive environment; understanding and adherence to MS state law, as well as ABMDI, NAME and NIJ standards of practice; taking after-hours call on a rotating basis; responding to death; interviewing family members to obtain medical, social and psychiatric history; communication with multiple federal, state, county and local law enforcement, healthcare entities, organ/tissue procurement organizations and social service agencies; facilitate scientific identification of unidentified human remains; advise coroners regarding jurisdiction, investigative, and death certification questions as well as general requests for assistance when on-call; assist with training of newly elected/appointed coroners and their deputies; maintain the confidentiality of criminal investigations and HIPAA-protected records; maintain the proper care and dignity of the remains of the recently deceased.

Preferred Qualifications:

Typically requires a Bachelor's degree related to forensic, chemical, physical, or biological science and 4-6 years of experience. Specific degree and/or certification requirements based on assigned unit.

Requires a Bachelor's degree related to Criminal Justice, Forensic Science, or Forensic Nursing and/or 5 years of experience involving Death Investigations. ABMDI registration or the willingness to obtain ABMDI registration within 18 months of employment.
