Job Description
JOB Under the general direction of the Captain of Investigations provides technical support to Police Department in photographing, collecting, preserving and presenting physical evidence.
Enters latent fingerprints into AFIX system. Trains in the examination of finger prints for matches to criminal offenders. Insures firearms collected by the department are sent to the state crime lab for IBIS and other appropriate testing. Submits ATF trace forms on firearms that are seized by the department. Utilizes video enhancement equipment to help identify offenders or gather other evidence. Prepares digital composite likeness for investigation purposes.
Requires shift work, including weekends, and being on-call.
Due to business necessity and emergency response this position requires the employee to live within a 5-mile planning radius of the City and the employee is expected to respond within a reasonable amount of time when notified by the chain of command.

EXAMPLE OF DUTIES
Responds to field investigations, systematically surveys crime scene and determines best method in which to process the crime scene related to identification, documentation, collection, preservation and utilization of physical evidence. This includes but is not limited to, photographs, video tape, complete diagrams or sketches of crime scenes, collection of evidence including hairs, fibers, saliva, blood, latent prints or other physical evidence. Maintains proper chain of custody on evidence and proper packaging, prepares evidence for submission to state crime lab or private laboratories. Prepares evidence and/or exhibits for use in court.Enters latent fingerprints into AFIX system. Trains in the examination of finger prints for matches to criminal offenders.
