Job Description

Under general supervision, the Supervisor - Crime Scene supervises the daily operational activities of the Crime Scene Unit with technical and scene processing support for city crime scenes by photographing, video graphing, sketching, marking, collecting, processing, and examination of physical evidence to comply with legal and scientific requirements. Posted range is the starting salary. Pay rate offered is based on experience. Supervises assigned staff in processing crime scenes, collecting evidence, taking photographs and videos, collecting fingerprint evidence, and related duties. Reviews evidence collected by subordinates for quality and completeness. Processes crime scenes and collects evidence. Plans and prepares for scheduled appearance in court as an expert witness. Utilizes crime scene identification equipment including Automated Fingerprint Identification System (AFIS), Next Generation Identification (NGI), National Integrated Ballistic Information Network (NIBIN), and video cameras, Faro, lights fingerprint processing equipment, etc. Completes and reviews activity reports, vehicle maintenance requests, purchase requisitions, crime scene reports, evidence collection supplies and inventory forms, and various other forms and documents. Prepares various weekly, monthly quarterly and/or yearly reports. Maintains logs, statistics, and technical information. Coordinates personnel and participates in the instruction of training by developing and maintaining training for new employees. Develops and evaluates recommendations for changes in policies, procedures, and practices for the unit. Graduation with a Bachelor's Degree from an accredited university. Minimum of two (2) years working with the public and at least one (1) year in a similar job-related field. One (1) year experience in a lead or supervisory capacity is preferred. Additional experience may substitute for the education requirement on a year-for-year basis. IAI Certification as a Certified Latent Print Examiner or Certification as a Crime Scene Analyst required or ability to obtain within six months of hire.
