Must be licensed with the Minnesota Peace Officers Standards and Training Board (POST). Must have a valid MN Driver's License, current insurance or be insurable.

Summary:

To develop, plan, conduct and monitor criminal and administrative investigations. To detect and reveal criminal violations, internal misconduct and illegal operations/activities and prevent and neutralize crimes through enforcement, creating awareness of laws, internal controls and security.

Education Requirements and Experience:

Must have successfully completed: Basic Police Program and Investigator Training. Three (3) years law enforcement experience, with additional trainings/certifications as applicable.

Additional Qualifications and Skills:

Must be twenty-one (21) years of age. Have knowledge of principles, concepts and practices of criminal and administrative investigation. Must have knowledge of crime scene management. Must have techniques of interviewing and interrogation skills. Good communication and customer service skills. Possess sound decision-making qualities. Must have proven management and leadership abilities. Must be physically and medically capable to; perform duties of this position without harm to self or others. Shall undergo psychological test to determine mental fitness to perform duties of this position without harm to self or others. Must pass criminal background investigation and shall have no domestic assault or felony convictions and meet Minnesota POST board minimum selection standards. Shall submit to drug/alcohol testing provided by the LLBO Tribal Police Department.

Supervisory Duties:

Will direct uniformed patrol division at crime scenes.

Duties/Responsibilities:

Conducting investigations with the collection of evidence involving developing and following leads. Analyze raw investigative data and prepare comprehensive reports. Conduct interviews pertaining to investigations. Taking statements in note form or recorded. Obtain and corroborate documents or physical evidence. Analyzing facts to identify suspects. Collaborating with criminal investigators and prosecutors to develop case information for use in pressing charges and bringing suspects to trial. Conduct and control operations and establish Informant Management. Handle Confidential Reliable Informant practices as required of Task Force Protocol. Prepare affidavits to secure search and/or arrest warrants. Perform surveillances to gather evidence and intelligence including undercover operations. Provide crime scene management, conducting searches and processing evidence. Collect, preserve and establish chain of custody for recovered evidence. Present case reports to the appropriate authority. Assist other agencies with investigations that involve Tribal members, property or resources. Testify in court or before review panels or boards. Document all aspects of investigations reports and memorandums. Maintain and safeguard records of all investigations. Maintain GSA vehicles and departmental vehicles. Perform daily operations of the Tribal Police Department. Ensure proper use of firearms, chemical agents and defensive tactics. Ensure confidentiality in matters of this nature are strictly adhered to.

Ability to travel:

in and out of state. Be called out any hour of day. Understanding and sensitivity to Native American culture. Adhere to policies governing staff conduct. Attend and or conduct all mandatory meetings and trainings as required. All other duties as assigned by the Lead Investigator or Chief of Police.

Physical Requirements:

Must have ability to participate fully in moderate to arduous physical activity including walking, standing and running. Shall have manual dexterity with free motion of fingers, wrists, elbows, shoulders, hips and knee joints. Arms, hands, legs and feet must function sufficiently to perform duties satisfactorily. Uncorrected distance vision must be 20/200 and corrected vision must be 20/20 in one eye and 20/30 in the other. Hearing is measured by an audiometer and must exceed 30 decibels in either ear in the 500, 1000 and 2000Hz ranges. Ability to hear the whispered voice at fifteen (15) feet with each ear without the use of a hearing aid. Must possess emotional and mental stability. Must not possess any condition that would hinder full, efficient performance of the duties of this position or would cause the investigator to be hazard to self or others.
