Job Description

Posting Details The Law Enforcement Records Bureau gathers, analyzes, and disseminates criminal justice data used by New Mexico law enforcement, criminal justice, corrections, courts, and civil agencies to ensure public safety. The bureau maintains complete and accurate records and responds to the needs of the public, law enforcement and criminal justice agencies providing support and customer engagement through our many applications, programs, and services to achieve the mission objectives. Why does the job exist? The Law Enforcement Records Specialist plays a vital role in supporting the operations of the Law Enforcement Records Bureau by managing and maintaining critical records. This position is responsible for organizing and safeguarding files, performing accurate data entry, fingerprinting individuals for background checks, and responding to public requests for reports. The specialist processes fingerprint-supported background checks using the Automated Fingerprint Identification System (AFIS) to confirm identities efficiently and reliably. By ensuring the accuracy and accessibility of essential records, this position directly supports criminal justice processes and contributes to public safety. How does it get done? Maintain Records Compliance (45%)
  • Process, update, and disseminate criminal history records in compliance with Federal and State requirements. Regularly audits to ensure accuracy, completeness, and timely updates to support records operations. Generate Reports (15%)
  • Prepare and distribute accident and criminal history reports, ensuring data accuracy, accessibility, and compliance with reporting standards. Perform Fingerprinting Services (15%)
  • Conduct fingerprinting using the AFIS system to capture high-quality prints for background checks, ensuring compliance with statutory mandates. Data Entry and Filing (25%)
  • Execute accurate data entry and maintain organized, secure records to ensure accessibility and confidentiality for agency operations.
Who are the customers? General Public, Law Enforcement, Courts, Corrections and Criminal Justice Agencies. Ideal Candidate General Public, Law Enforcement, Courts, Corrections and Criminal Justice Agencies. Minimum Qualification No prior experience or training required. Employment Requirements Employment is subject to a pre-employment background investigation and fingerprinting in accordance with all terms and conditions of federal and state law, rules and regulations; and is conditional pending results. Continued employment is contingent upon remaining felony free, per Section 5.12.1.1 of the Criminal Justice Information Systems Security Policy. In addition, the selected candidate must possess and maintain a valid driver's license and a current Defensive Driving Certificate from the State of New Mexico; or pass and receive the Defensive Driving Certificate within six (6) months of date of hire.
Working Conditions Working Conditions:
This position is based in an office environment, involving extensive use of computers, video display terminals, and telephones, with extended periods of sitting. Physical requirements include the ability to lift and carry up to 30 lbs., along with frequent walking, standing, sitting, and bending. Occasional statewide travel may be required.
