We are looking for teammates who are: Detail-oriented professionals who can analyze financial records, identify discrepancies, and connect information from multiple sources Curious and analytical thinkers who enjoy researching complex issues Organized professionals who can manage sensitive information, maintain accurate records, and balance multiple priorities Effective communicators who can document findings clearly and interact professionally with a variety of stakeholders Objective professionals who can maintain confidentiality, evaluate information impartially, and support investigations with integrity and professionalism What you will do: You will provide investigative and analytical support relative to the enforcement of the criminal tax statutes and related financial crimes in order to encourage and achieve voluntary compliance by taxpayers under South Carolina's tax laws.
Primary job duties include:
Conducting ongoing research to identify new information or sources of information Analyzing records and evidence including financial statements, bank records, general ledgers, invoices, and tax returns Maintaining official case files throughout investigations Collecting information obtained from electronic databases, public records, and financial institutions that involve subjects of investigations Providing spreadsheets and analytical reports summarizing information surrounding investigations Investigating complaints, inquiries, or violations of South Carolina laws or regulations Conducting inspections or surveillances of businesses and individuals Coordinating, planning, and assisting with witness interviews and affidavits Serving as a witness or corroborator of interviews Assisting in the preparation for trials by reviewing witness testimony, analyzing evidence, and coordinating witnesses
Minimum and Additional Requirements Either:
A high school diploma and experience conducting investigations or performing other law enforcement duties or A bachelor's degree Academic degrees must be from an accredited institution of higher learning.
Additional Requirements:
Valid driver's license Required to attend and complete the CLASS 3 basic law enforcement certification program at the South Carolina Criminal Justice Academy Travel as needed is required and minimal overnight travel required Preferred Qualifications A bachelor's degree and two years of experience in conducting investigations or performing other law enforcement duties An associate's degree and four years of experience conducting investigations or performing other law enforcement duties or A high school diploma and six years of experience conducting investigations or performing other law enforcement duties

Hours:
Work hours are 8:30 a.m. - 5:00 p.m., Monday - Friday (37.5 hours per week).

This position may be eligible to work remotely up to two days per week after one year of employment with SCDOR. Office location : Depending on space availability, you may have the option to choose which SCDOR office you work in (Columbia, Charleston, Florence, Greenville, Myrtle Beach, or Rock Hill.).
