  • G Job Duties For more than three decades, the Virginia Lottery has worked to build a strong reputation, one synonymous with providing fun, entertaining experiences and doing so responsibly and with integrity.
Proceeds from traditional Lottery games support K-12 public education in Virginia. Taxes generated by sports wagering and casino gaming, which are regulated by the Lottery, benefit other priorities of the Commonwealth. The Virginia Lottery, an independent state agency, is currently seeking a fun, energetic, Lottery Investigator (part-time) to join its Security Department. This position is located in Richmond, Virginia. This is a wage position and is limited to 1,500 hours of work in the twelve-month period beginning May 1, through April 30. No state benefits are provided. The Lottery Investigator
  • Part Time will conduct Lottery-related investigations involving allegations of criminal and regulatory violations, as well as background investigations of potential Lottery employees, retailers, and vendors.
The position is responsible for collecting and analyzing facts and evidence, preparing detailed reports of findings, testifying in court, and working with local & state law enforcement agencies. The position primarily handles cases in the Central Virginia area and reports to the Chief of Investigations. However, this position is subject to handle cases as needed throughout the state. Minimum Qualifications The person selected for this position will have: Extensive knowledge of criminal investigative techniques and practices; excellent verbal and written communications skills; proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint; proficiency in using automated databases and systems as an integrated part of job responsibilities
  • and in generating & analyzing data as part of investigative process; familiarity with facility & workplace security strategies and systems; demonstrated ability to work with diverse groups & collaborate on team projects; and proven ability to make sound decisions.
Confidentiality is a must. High School diploma or equivalent. Five years' experience In Law Enforcement with an emphasis in conducting criminal investigations. Current Virginia Department of Criminal Justice Services (DCJS) Law Enforcement Certification required. Must meet statutory minimum qualifications for law enforcement officers (§15.2-1705, Code of VA) Must have never been convicted of a felony, bookmaking or other forms of illegal gambling, or of a crime involving moral turpitude (§58.1-4008, Code of VA), or any crime of domestic violence. Must undergo a Physical Examination, subsequent to a conditional offer of employment, conducted under the supervision of a licensed physician. Must reside in Virginia and be willing to live within 75 miles of assigned geographic area's business center. Must pass a Background Investigation. Must have a valid Virginia Driver's License with a good driving record. Must be willing to do occasional overnight travel statewide and be willing to work some irregular work schedules as needed. Additional Considerations Background in conducting cyber-crime investigations. Advanced degree in Criminal Justice or related field.
